There is so very much in the exploration of yoga that simply cannot be covered in weekly classes. These study groups are monthly opportunities to ‘Go Deeper’ into our understanding of yoga practice and philosophy. In them we will look at aspects of asana, pranayama and meditation as well as explore the source of yoga wisdom, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. All of the meetings will include discussion and yoga practice. We will alternate between ‘yoga mind’ in the Patanjali group and ‘yoga body’ in the Movement group, both are important aspects of our yoga, and the ‘Mind’ sessions will support the ‘Body’ sessions and vice versa.
Going Deeper with Movement
In this series of ongoing workshops we will explore how movement of body and breath can take us towards a deeper experience of ourselves and affect how our mind behaves. Each session will include somatic movement exercises and Yoga asana, along with conscious breathing in movement and seated pranayama practices. An aspect of anatomy will often be explored in an embodied way to lead us towards greater depth in our practice.
These sessions will generally be led by Debby.
Dates: 11th October 19, 13th December 19, 7th February 20, 3rd April 20.
Going Deeper with the Yoga Sutra
We cannot really know yoga as a serious student without knowing something about the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali. This 2nd Century CE text is the Heart text of yoga that defines yoga and guides us through the yoga journey. In these study groups we will explore aspects of yoga that are given to us by Patanjali and we’ll see that Patanjali gives us a framework for living in the human condition that is valid and relevant in the modern age. Patanjali gives us an important view of the Mind from a yoga perspective and we will explore how the sutra can be applied and embodied in our practice. Every session will have discussion and a practice that will include asana and pranayama.
These sessions will generally be led by David.
Dates: 13th September 19, 8th November 19, 10th January 20, 6th March 20.
Both ‘Going Deeper’ sessions are open to all serious students of Yoga, Student teachers and teachers alike.
